April's PHLiCKids journal prompt is:
What do you do to help make the Earth a better place? Feel free to post photos and videos of your efforts. Also, take the time this month to stop and appreciate the natural world around you. Photograph some of your favorite things in nature and share them on your blog.

Some people play kick ball or soccer outside. My friend, Jon, and I make play swords, bows, arrows, spears and shields that all work. We find sticks and wood around the neighborhood. We use them to make stuff like in the the picture above. You may be thinking, "WHAT! HOW DO YOU MAKE THE ARROWS NOT HURT!" Well I'll tell you. We put blunt tips on the arrows so they don't hurt anything they hit. We reuse old Nerf bullets that don't shoot anymore and cover them in duct tape so they stay on. We carry the arrows with quivers. My quiver is cardboard that I took out of the trash can. Then I wrapped it in duct tape to keep it together. The shield is made from plywood my dad had left over from another project. After we cut it I covered it in layers of duct tape to make it more durable.
QUESTION: How does this help the earth?
ANSWER: I keep things out of the landfill by re-using some items, and by not buying more plastic toys.
